Spend a culture and nature-packed day exploring the stunning islands and fascinating fishing communities of Lake Victoria.
It’s an early start to catch the car ferry to Mbita from where you’ll leave bustle behind for the peace and tranquillity of Rusinga. Learn a little about island life at a local community centre in the heart of a fishing village where you’ll receive a fascinating overview to local health, educational and revenue-generating activities.
Next, board your boat for a cruise around Bird Island– an unpopulated, craggy island literally teeming with birdlife- keeping your eyes peeled for the prehistoric monitor lizards that prowl the banks. From here, motor on to a beautiful white sand, coconut-tree lined beach for a well deserved relax and dip in the lake before returning to Rusinga where there’s time for one more stop-off at the mausoleum of local political hero, Tom Mboya to learn a little about his tragic, yet inspirational story before catching the last ferry back to Kisumu.
