Nature

Whilst you won’t find all of the Big 5 in Western Kenya, you’re within very easy access of them, plus it may surprise you to learn that there is more nature and wildlife in here than in any other part of Kenya.

The region offers diverse eco-systems and beautiful natural features ranging from the mighty Lake Victoria and the rolling Nandi Hills, to great Mt Elgon, the Kericho tea plantations, volcanic craters, boulder-strewn hills and the pristine primary rainforest at Kakamega.  The whole region is lush and green, enjoying a sunny (yet not too hot) climate and the most wonderful pink sunrises and sunsets.

For animal and bird lovers, Lake Victoria is a twitcher’s paradise with over 350 species of birds from fish eagles through to kingfishers, herons and rare fly-catchers.   Elsewhere you’ll find hippos, crocodiles, cave elephants, wild dogs, snakes, monitor lizards, jungle monkeys, butterflies and a myriad of insects…. plus if the Big 5 are your thing, you’re only 3-4 hours drive away from the great national parks of Masai Mara, Nakuru and Naivasha if you wish to truly gorge yourself on Kenya’s wildlife.  Find out about safari here
